In this course, you are required to design a floor plan for a health care facility. This will include designing the layout of rooms within the facility as well as adding environmental, regulatory, and IT elements within the rooms you design.

Review the Facility Planning Guide to familiarize yourself with the requirements of the project.

Research software programs you can use to create a floor plan, and choose one.

Write a brief explanation as to why you chose the program and why it is the best choice for this assignment. Include details on how the faculty member will be able to access your project.

Facility Planning Guide

Health care facilities have uniquely defined characteristics based on the needs of the facility or population served. Poor design may lead to staff, visitor, or patient stress. In large facilities, the inability to find a department may lead to frustrations and disorientation. Poor layout may also lead to staff inefficiencies or fines because of failure to meet regulatory requirements.

Throughout this course you will design a floor plan for the facility you selected in the Week 2 Facility Selection and Research assignment. This assignment illustrates the difficult balances between patient flow, workflow, safety, and aesthetics. You will use this document as a guide to understand the environmental design elements you should include in your final design. You will submit this document each week as your assignment.

For this project, you may use the program of your choice to complete the floor plan. Some programs to consider are Microsoft® PowerPoint®, Visio®, Publisher®, Excel®, or online floor plan programs such as Edraw, SmartDraw, Gliffy, and Lucidchart. Your faculty member will need to approve your choice, since he or she must be able to view your project in order to grade it. It is important to note that the purpose of this project is not to be an expert at creating a facility using your chosen program, but rather to ensure the concepts learned in this course can be applied to the facility design principles.  Your use of the floor planning program is meant to enhance your learning of the course and program concepts.

It is important that to understand your role in health care facility design because every title is important to make a hospital run smoothly. Stating from the people who clean the rooms after each patient. Nothing can be done in a dirty unsupplied room. Having it clean properly and stocked properly allows medical staff to focus their concern on people who needs medical attention. There is an order for things. I know doing something every day makes a habit, but also people tend to look for ways to get things done faster. Understand your role will make sure you are doing your job correctly, and to the best of your ability. It will also let you spot mistakes quickly, and know what you need to solve to get back on track.

RESPONSE2:

The reason it is important for individuals to understand their in role in health care design is that there has to be a clear decision and perception regarding their role and responsibilities and if it may align with the overall design of the health care facility. In many cases the overall goal of health care designs appears to be that each person’s role is an essential piece within the design however, these roles become a multidisciplinary team. If in fact, there is a misunderstanding or inadequacy when it comes to specific roles within the design; this may then compromise the delivery in health services provided to patients as well as patient safety. For example, in a physician office setting the nurses all have a specific role to ensure that the design in delivering quality services to patients are being met. Moreover, the roles of front office nurses differ from the nurses who assume roles and responsibilities of the back office. However, each role fits into the design of assisting the treating physician as they provide superlative care.
